The Estrella del Mar III – Battery Energy Storage System is a 5,000kW energy storage project located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The rated storage capacity of the project is 10,000kWh.

The electro-chemical battery energy storage project uses lithium-ion as its storage technology. The project was announced in 2018 and will be commissioned in 2021.


The Estrella del Mar III – Battery Energy Storage System is owned by Transcontinental Capital Corp. (Bermuda ) (100%), a subsidiary of Seaboard.

The key applications of the project are frequency regulation and grid support services.

Contractors involved

Transcontinental Capital Corp. (Bermuda) is the owner. Fluence Energy is the technology provider for the project.

Singapore Technologies Engineering is the EPC contractor for the project.

For the SIESTART solution Fluence Energy, a company of Siemens and AES , is providing a 5MW/10MWh battery energy storage system to be integrated as part of the power plant for frequency regulation control. This will allow the plant to operate at full capacity with highest fuel efficiency.
