Europe electricity procurement contracts activity down 26% in Q2 2021

There were 81 electricity procurement contracts announced in the Europe region in Q2 2021, marking a drop of 26% over the last four-quarter average of 109, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Europe region in Q2 2021 with 182 contracts and a 40.8% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 94 contracts and a 21.1% share and Electricity Procurement with 81 contracts and an 18.2% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 65 contracts and an 80.2% share
  2. Project Implementation: 11 contracts and a 13.6% share
  3. Electricity Supply: five contracts and a 6.2% share.

Wind is top technology for Europe electricity procurement contracts in Q2 2021

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the Europe region, wind accounted for 49 contracts with a 57% share, followed by solar with 34 contracts and a 39.5% share and hydro with three contracts and a 3.5% share.

Europe electricity procurement contracts in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Urzad Regulacji Energetyki (Poland): 5,530MW from four contracts
  2. Orsted (Denmark): 250MW from one contract
  3. AzerEnerji (Azerbaijan): 230MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Orsted (Denmark): 2,633MW from two contracts
  2. EW Baltica two sp z oo (Poland) and EW Baltica three (Poland): 2,543MW from one contract
  3. Polenergia (Poland) and Equinor (Norway): 1,440MW capacity from one contract.
