Europe generation equipment contracts activity down 29% in Q2 2021

There were 94 generation equipment contracts announced in the Europe region in Q2 2021, marking a drop of 29% over the last four-quarter average of 132, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Europe region in Q2 2021 with 182 contracts and a 40.8% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 94 contracts and a 21.1% share and Electricity Procurement with 81 contracts and an 18.2% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 74 contracts and a 78.7% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 14 contracts and a 14.9% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: three contracts and a 3.2% share
  4. Project Implementation: three contracts and a 3.2% share.

Wind is top technology for Europe generation equipment contracts in Q2 2021

Looking at generation equipment contracts by the type of technology in the Europe region, wind accounted for 56 contracts with a 62.2% share, followed by solar with 13 contracts and a 14.4% share and thermal with seven contracts and a 7.8% share.

Europe generation equipment contracts in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of generation equipment contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Neoen (France): 404MW from one contract
  2. Lausitz Energie Bergbau (Germany): 300MW from one contract
  3. Miejskie Przedsiebiorstwo Oczyszczania: 20MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Vestas Northern and Central Europe (Germany): 404MW from one contract
  2. Siemens Energy (Germany): 300MW from one contract
  3. Doosan Lentjes (Germany): 20MW capacity from one contract.
