Europe power industry contracts in April 2020: France leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, France led the activity in April 2020 with 175 contracts and a share of 71.4%, up 66.1% over the previous month and up 548% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Germany with 11 contracts and a share of 4.5% and Spain with seven contracts and a share of 2.9% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, France held the top spot with 27 contracts, followed by the UK with 12 and Germany with eight contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in April 2020

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 153 contracts and a 63.2% share, followed by wind with 77 contracts and a 31.8% share and hydro with five contracts and a 2.1% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Europe as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in April 2020, with 192 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (31) and T&D Equipment (10).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 192 contracts and a 78.4% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 36 contracts and a 14.7% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: six contracts and a 2.4% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: six contracts and a 2.4% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: five contracts and a 2% share.

Power contracts in April 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Ministere de l’Environnement, de l’Energie et de la Mer (France): 1,490.51MW from 161 contracts
  2. The Regulatory Authority for Energy (Greece): 502.94MW from five contracts
  3. Vattenfall (Sweden): 240MW capacity from one contract.
