Europe power industry contracts in January 2020: The UK leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, the UK led the activity in January 2020 with ten contracts and a share of 12.7%, up 7% over the previous month and down 17% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Germany with nine contracts and a share of 11.4% and Spain with eight contracts and a share of 10.1% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, France held the top spot with 37 contracts, followed by the UK with 12 and Germany with seven contracts.

Wind is top technology area for contracts in January 2020
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 37 contracts and a 52.1% share, followed by solar with 22 contracts and a 31% share and hydro with four contracts and a 5.6% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Europe as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in January 2020, with 25 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (23) and Electricity Procurement (15).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 26 contracts and a 32.9% share
- Project Implementation: 24 contracts and a 30.4% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 12 contracts and a 15.2% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: eight contracts and a 10.1% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: six contracts and a 7.6% share
- Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 3.8% share.
Power contracts in January 2020: Top companies by capacity
The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:
- Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan: 440MW from two contracts
- Urzad Regulacji Energetyki (Poland): 194MW from two contracts
- Lundin Petroleum (Sweden): 132MW capacity from one contract.
Power contracts in January 2020: Top winners by capacity
The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:
- ACWA Power International (Saudi Arabia): 240MW from one contract
- Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates): 200MW from one contract
- OX2 Group (Sweden): 162MW capacity from two contracts.
