Power industry contracts in Europe for January 2021 down 18%

Europe power industry contracts activity in January 2021 saw 137 contracts announced, marking a drop of 18% over the last 12-month average of 167, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Europe power industry contracts in January 2021: France leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, France led the activity in January 2021 with 59 contracts and a share of 43.1%, up 37% over the previous month and up 97% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Germany with 15 contracts and a share of 10.9% and Italy with 14 contracts and a share of 10.2% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, France held the top spot with 30 contracts, followed by the UK with 18 and Germany with 13 contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in January 2021

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 73 contracts and a 64% share, followed by wind with 32 contracts and a 28.1% share and thermal with three contracts and a 2.6% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Europe as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in January 2021, with 72 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (23) and T&D Equipment (21).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 68 contracts and a 49.6% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 43 contracts and a 31.4% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 14 contracts and a 10.2% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: nine contracts and a 6.6% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 2.2% share.

Power contracts in January 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Gresham House and PPC Renewables (Greece): 200MW from one contract
  2. Apatit: 100MW from one contract
  3. Ministere de la transition ecologique et solidaire (France): 95.19MW capacity from 56 contracts.

Power contracts in January 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. China Energy Engineering (China) and Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute (China): 1,320MW from one contract
  2. Anesco (United Kingdom): 230MW from two contracts
  3. Metka EGN (United Kingdom): 200MW capacity from one contract.
