Europe power industry contracts in March 2020: The UK leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, the UK led the activity in March 2020 with 11 contracts and a share of 14.3%, up 3.2% over the previous month and down 8% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Poland with seven contracts and a share of 9.1% and Finland with six contracts and a share of 7.8% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, France held the top spot with 37 contracts, followed by the UK with 12 and Germany with eight contracts.

Wind is top technology area for contracts in March 2020

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 35 contracts and a 56.5% share, followed by solar with 11 contracts and a 17.7% share and nuclear with five contracts and an 8.1% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Europe as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment in March 2020, with 32 contracts, followed by Power Plant (17) and T&D Equipment (14).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 44 contracts and a 57.1% share
  2. Project Implementation: 18 contracts and a 23.4% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: seven contracts and a 9.1% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: four contracts and a 5.2% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four contracts and a 5.2% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Iren Energia (Italy): 430MW from one contract
  2. Elektroprivreda Srbije (Serbia): 350MW from one contract
