Europe power industry contracts in May 2021: Italy leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, Italy led the activity in May 2021 with 18 contracts and a share of 18.6%, up 15.4% over the previous month and up 50% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Spain with 14 contracts and a share of 14.4% and the UK with 13 contracts and a share of 13.4% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, France held the top spot with 33 contracts, followed by the UK with 25 and Spain with 18 contracts.

Wind is top technology area for contracts in May 2021

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 49 contracts and a 54.4% share, followed by solar with 29 contracts and a 32.2% share and hydro with five contracts and a 5.6% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Europe as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in May 2021, with 35 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (24) and Generation Equipment (20).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 33 contracts and a 34% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 28 contracts and a 28.9% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 21 contracts and a 21.6% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: six contracts and a 6.2% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: six contracts and a 6.2% share
  6. Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 3.1% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Urzad Regulacji Energetyki (Poland): 1,440MW from one contract
  2. Neoen (France): 404MW from one contract
  3. Orsted (Denmark): 250MW capacity from one contract.
