Europe power industry contracts in Q1 2020: France leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, France led the activity in Q1 2020 with 55 contracts and a share of 17.2%, up 0.9% over the previous quarter and down 52% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by the UK with 36 contracts and a share of 11.3% and Italy with 29 contracts and a share of 9.1% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, France held the top spot with 114 contracts, followed by the UK with 38 and Germany with 24 contracts.

Wind is top technology area for contracts in Q1 2020

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 116 contracts and a 41.1% share, followed by solar with 109 contracts and a 38.7% share and thermal with 15 contracts and a 5.3% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in Europe power contracts activity during Q1 2020, with 131 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (84) and Electricity Procurement (43).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 132 contracts and a 41.4% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 112 contracts and a 35.1% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 37 contracts and an 11.6% share
