Europe power industry contracts in Q2 2020: France leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, France led the activity in Q2 2020 with 245 contracts and a share of 42.7%, up 26.7% over the previous quarter and up 192% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by the UK with 43 contracts and a share of 7.5% and Germany with 42 contracts and a share of 7.3% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, France held the top spot with 84 contracts, followed by the UK with 38 and Germany with 26 contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q2 2020

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 240 contracts and a 51.3% share, followed by wind with 154 contracts and a 32.9% share and thermal with 28 contracts and a 6% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in Europe power contracts activity during Q2 2020, with 294 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (121) and T&D Equipment (102).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 289 contracts and a 50.3% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 201 contracts and a 35% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 31 contracts and a 5.4% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 28 contracts and a 4.9% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: 22 contracts and a 3.8% share
  6. Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 0.5% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  2. The Regulatory Authority for Energy (Greece): 502.94MW from five contracts
  3. Lampiris (Belgium): 309MW capacity from one contract.
