Europe power industry tenders in Q3 2020: Poland leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, Poland led the activity in Q3 2020 with 104 tenders and a share of 31.8%, up 3% over the previous quarter and up 14% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Germany with 31 tenders and a share of 9.5% and the UK with 23 tenders and a share of 7% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, Poland held the top spot with 91 tenders, followed by Germany with 23 and France with 12 tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in Q3 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 63 tenders and a 39.1% share, followed by thermal with 46 tenders and a 28.6% share and wind with 19 tenders and an 11.8% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in Europe power tenders activity during Q3 2020, with 83 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (81) and Power Plant (81).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 125 tenders and a 38.2% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 125 tenders and a 38.2% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 40 tenders and a 12.2% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 18 tenders and a 5.5% share
  5. Electricity Supply: 12 tenders and a 3.7% share
  6. Others: five tenders and a 1.5% share
  7. Power Purchase Agreement: two tenders and a 0.6% share.

Power tenders in Q3 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Bundesnetzagentur (Germany): 19,450MW from two tenders
  2. Ministry of Climate (Poland): 3,200MW from one tender
  3. Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Turkey (Turkey) and Energinet Eltransmission (Denmark): 1,000MW capacity from one tender.
