Europe power industry tenders in Q4 2019: Poland leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, Poland led the activity in Q4 2019 with 116 tenders and a share of 44.8%, up 7.9% over the previous quarter and up 17% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Germany with 23 tenders and a share of 8.9% and Russian Federation with 15 tenders and a share of 5.8% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, Poland held the top spot with 99 tenders, followed by Germany with 17 and Russian Federation with 15 tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in Q4 2019

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 36 tenders and a 27.5% share, followed by thermal with 34 tenders and a 26% share and wind with 25 tenders and a 19.1% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in Europe power tenders activity during Q4 2019, with 82 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (63) and Generation Equipment (56).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 88 tenders and a 34% share
  2. Project Implementation: 87 tenders and a 33.6% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 49 tenders and an 18.9% share
  4. Electricity Supply: 19 tenders and a 7.3% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: 13 tenders and a 5% share
  6. Power Purchase Agreement: three tenders and a 1.2% share.

Power tenders in Q4 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Bundesnetzagentur (Germany) and Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Turkey (Turkey): 1,000MW from one tender
  2. Elektrani na Makedonija (Macedonia): 110MW from one tender
  3. Empresa de Desenvolvimento e Infra-estruturas do Alqueva (Portugal), Government Of Kosovo (Kosovo) and The World Bank Group (United States): 50MW capacity from one tender.
