Europe power plant contracts activity down 43% in Q3 2021

There were 138 power plant contracts announced in the Europe region in Q3 2021, marking a drop of 43% over the last four-quarter average of 242, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Europe region in Q3 2021 with 138 contracts and a 39.1% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 73 contracts and a 20.7% share and Electricity Procurement with 56 contracts and a 15.9% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 110 contracts and a 79.7% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 19 contracts and a 13.8% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: nine contracts and a 6.5% share.

Wind is top technology for Europe power plant contracts in Q3 2021

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Europe region, wind accounted for 62 contracts with a 44.9% share, followed by solar with 57 contracts and a 41.3% share and nuclear with seven contracts and a 5.1% share.

Europe power plant contracts in Q3 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. AO ATC (Russia): 2,722.08MW from 58 contracts
  2. Bundesnetzagentur (Germany): 994.7MW from six contracts
  3. Metaenergiaproduzione S.R.L: 380MW capacity from one contract.

Europe power plant contracts in Q3 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Fortum-Rusnano Wind Investment Fund (Russia): 1,390.5MW from 31 contracts
  2. China Energy Engineering Group International Engineering (China) and China Energy Engineering Group Northeast No one Electric Power Construction (China): 860MW from one contract
  3. Unigreen Power (Russia): 545MW capacity from ten contracts.
