Europe power plant contracts activity down 33% in Q2 2021

There were 182 power plant contracts announced in the Europe region in Q2 2021, marking a drop of 33% over the last four-quarter average of 273, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Europe region in Q2 2021 with 182 contracts and a 40.8% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 94 contracts and a 21.1% share and Electricity Procurement with 81 contracts and an 18.2% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 134 contracts and a 73.6% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 36 contracts and a 19.8% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: ten contracts and a 5.5% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: two contracts and a 1.1% share.

Solar is top technology for Europe power plant contracts in Q2 2021

Looking at power plant contracts by the type of technology in the Europe region, solar accounted for 129 contracts with a 69.7% share, followed by wind with 41 contracts and a 22.2% share and nuclear with five contracts and a 2.7% share.

Europe power plant contracts in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Neoen (France): 404MW from one contract
  2. The Regulatory Authority for Energy (Greece): 349.89MW from 49 contracts
  3. Lausitz Energie Bergbau (Germany): 300MW capacity from one contract.

Europe power plant contracts in Q2 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Vestas Northern and Central Europe (Germany): 404MW from one contract
  2. Siemens Energy (Germany): 300MW from one contract
  3. Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates): 230MW capacity from one contract.
