Europe smart grid contracts activity up 86% in Q4 2020

There were 54 smart grid contracts announced in the Europe region in Q4 2020, marking a rise of 86% over the last four-quarter average of 29, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Generation Equipment stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Europe region in Q4 2020 with 125 contracts and a 29.1% share, followed by T&D Equipment with 85 contracts and a 19.8% share and Power Plant with 77 contracts and a 17.9% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 47 contracts and an 87% share
  2. Project Implementation: five contracts and a 9.3% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 1.9% share
  4. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 1.9% share.

Wind is top technology for Europe smart grid contracts in Q4 2020

Looking at smart grid contracts by the type of technology in the Europe region, wind accounted for 13 contracts with an 81.3% share, followed by solar with three contracts and an 18.8% share.

The top issuer of smart grid contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe was:Terna (Italy) with 25MW from one contract.

The top winner of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe was:Engie E PS (France) and FCA US L (United States) with 25MW from one contract.
