Generation equipment contracts down 23% in Q2 2021

Generation equipment contracts in Q2 2021 saw 254 contracts announced, marking a drop of 23% over the last four-quarter average of 330, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 198 contracts and a 78% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 38 contracts and a 15% share
  3. Project Implementation: 11 contracts and a 4.3% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: seven contracts and a 2.8% share.

Europe leads generation equipment activity in Q2 2021

Comparing contracts activity in generation equipment segment in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 94 contracts and a share of 37% during Q2 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with 80 contracts and a 31.5% share and North America with 40 contracts and a 15.7% share.

Wind is leading technology for generation equipment contracts in Q2 2021

Among the technologies, wind accounted for 96 contracts with a 38.6% share, followed by solar with 60 contracts and a 24.1% share and thermal with 46 contracts and an 18.5% share.

Generation equipment contracts in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of generation equipment contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. State Power Investment (China): 7,200MW from one contract
  2. Neoen (France): 404MW from one contract
  3. Lausitz Energie Bergbau (Germany): 300MW capacity from one contract.

Generation equipment contracts in Q2 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Jolywood (Taizhou) Solar Technology (China): 7,200MW from one contract
  2. Vestas Northern and Central Europe (Germany): 404MW from one contract
  3. Siemens Energy (Germany): 300MW capacity from one contract.
