Generation equipment contracts up 3% in Q4 2020

Generation equipment contracts in Q4 2020 saw 311 contracts announced, marking a rise of 3% over the last four-quarter average of 302, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 257 contracts and an 82.6% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 32 contracts and a 10.3% share
  3. Project Implementation: 13 contracts and a 4.2% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: nine contracts and a 2.9% share.

Europe leads generation equipment activity in Q4 2020

Comparing contracts activity in generation equipment segment in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 125 contracts and a share of 40.2% during Q4 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 100 contracts and a 32.2% share and North America with 54 contracts and a 17.4% share.

Wind is leading technology for generation equipment contracts in Q4 2020

Among the technologies, wind accounted for 126 contracts with a 40.6% share, followed by solar with 77 contracts and a 24.8% share and thermal with 59 contracts and a 19% share.

Generation equipment contracts in Q4 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of generation equipment contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Korea Western Power (South Korea): 728MW from one contract
  2. Nepal Water & Energy Development (Nepal): 216MW from one contract
  3. PT Freeport Indonesia (Indonesia): 128MW capacity from one contract.

Generation equipment contracts in Q4 2020: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (South Korea): 944MW from two contracts
  2. Wartsila (Finland): 128MW from one contract
  3. Vestas Asia Pacific Wind Technology Pte. (Singapore): 109.2MW capacity from one contract.
