Global power industry contracts for April 2022 down 16%

Power industry contracts activity in April 2022 saw 290 contracts announced, marking a drop of 16% over the last 12-month average of 347, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Power industry contracts in April 2022: Asia-Pacific leads global activity

On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 136 contracts and a share of 46.9% during April 2022, followed by Europe with 71 contracts and a 24.5% share and North America with 47 contracts and a 16.2% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 19 contracts and a 6.6% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 17 contracts and a 5.9% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Europe held a lead over others with 124 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 109.

Solar tops by technology in April 2022

Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 129 contracts and a 53.5% share, followed by wind with 56 contracts and a 23.2% share and thermal with 22 contracts and a 9.1% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment during April 2022, with 112 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (77) and T&D Project (54).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 107 contracts and a 36.9% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 85 contracts and a 29.3% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 46 contracts and a 15.9% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 34 contracts and an 11.7% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 16 contracts and a 5.5% share
  6. Others: two contracts and a 0.7% share.

Power contracts in April 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Riau Islands: 3,062MW from one contract
  2. County of Buxel and Government of Xinjiang Tacheng: 3,000MW from one contract
  3. West Holdings (Japan): 2,700MW capacity from four contracts.

Power contracts in April 2022: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Sunseap Group (Singapore): 3,062MW from one contract
  2. JERA (Japan): 2,700MW from four contracts
  3. Dongfang Electric (China): 2,000MW capacity from one contract.
