Power industry contracts in December 2021: Asia-Pacific leads global activity
On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 124 contracts and a share of 38.3% during December 2021, followed by Europe with 112 contracts and a 34.6% share and North America with 42 contracts and a 13% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 30 contracts and a 9.3% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 16 contracts and a 4.9% share.

Solar tops by technology in December 2021
Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 146 contracts and a 52.5% share, followed by wind with 92 contracts and a 33.1% share and thermal with 19 contracts and a 6.8% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment during December 2021, with 112 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (88) and Electricity Procurement (72).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 124 contracts and a 38.3% share
- Supply & Erection: 99 contracts and a 30.6% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 70 contracts and a 21.6% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 17 contracts and a 5.2% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 12 contracts and a 3.7% share
- Electricity Supply: two contracts and a 0.6% share.
Power contracts in December 2021: Top companies by capacity
The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 8,885MW from nine contracts
- Amazon Web Services (United States): 2,244MW from seven contracts
- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (Taiwan): 1,200MW capacity from one contract.
Power contracts in December 2021: Top winners by capacity
The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Adani Green Energy (India): 4,667MW from one contract
- Azure Power (India): 2,333MW from one contract
- China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 2,006MW capacity from eight contracts.
