Power industry contracts in February 2022: Europe leads global activity

On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 76 contracts and a share of 38.4% during February 2022, followed by Asia-Pacific with 64 contracts and a 32.3% share and North America with 35 contracts and a 17.7% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with 12 contracts and a 6.1% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with 11 contracts and a 5.6% share.

Solar tops by technology in February 2022

Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 73 contracts and a 43.5% share, followed by wind with 56 contracts and a 33.3% share and thermal with 13 contracts and a 7.7% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment during February 2022, with 63 contracts, followed by Power Plant (54) and Generation Equipment (38).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 60 contracts and a 30.3% share
  2. Project Implementation: 60 contracts and a 30.3% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 47 contracts and a 23.7% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 21 contracts and a 10.6% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: seven contracts and a 3.5% share
  6. Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 1.5% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (India): 1,785MW from one contract
  2. Comision Federal de Electricidad (Mexico): 1,500MW from one contract
  3. Alcoa (United States): 906.3MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,785MW from one contract
  2. Tecnicas Reunidas (Spain) and TSK Group (Spain): 1,500MW from one contract
  3. Endesa (Spain): 906.3MW capacity from one contract.
