Global power industry contracts for March 2022 down 38%

Power industry contracts activity in March 2022 saw 225 contracts announced, marking a drop of 38% over the last 12-month average of 363, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Power industry contracts in March 2022: Asia-Pacific leads global activity

 

On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 124 contracts and a share of 55.1% during March 2022, followed by Europe with 41 contracts and an 18.2% share and North America with 33 contracts and a 14.7% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 17 contracts and a 7.6% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with ten contracts and a 4.4% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Europe held a lead over others with 136 contracts, followed by Asia-Pacific with 109.

Solar tops by technology in March 2022

 

Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 109 contracts and a 54.2% share, followed by wind with 62 contracts and a 30.8% share and thermal with 19 contracts and a 9.5% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment during March 2022, with 83 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (60) and Generation Equipment (57).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 62 contracts and a 27.6% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 61 contracts and a 27.1% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 60 contracts and a 26.7% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 32 contracts and a 14.2% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: ten contracts and a 4.4% share.

 

Power contracts in March 2022: Top companies by capacity

 

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. China Huadian (China): 3,000MW from one contract
  2. Hubei Qichun Garden Pumped Storage Power Station: 1,200MW from one contract
  3. Saudi Power Procurement (Saudi Arabia): 1,000MW capacity from two contracts.

 

Power contracts in March 2022: Top winners by capacity

 

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. China Power Engineering Consulting Group (China): 11,027MW from 14 contracts
  2. Greenko Energies (India): 975MW from one contract
  3. Acwa Power (Saudi Arabia): 700MW capacity from one contract.
