Power industry contracts in May 2022: Asia-Pacific leads global activity

On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 105 contracts and a share of 44.5% during May 2022, followed by Europe with 71 contracts and a 30.1% share and North America with 35 contracts and a 14.8% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 14 contracts and a 5.9% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 11 contracts and a 4.7% share.

Solar tops by technology in May 2022

Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 99 contracts and a 53.5% share, followed by wind with 50 contracts and a 27% share and thermal with 20 contracts and a 10.8% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment during May 2022, with 101 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (43) and T&D Project (37).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 92 contracts and a 39% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 66 contracts and a 28% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 35 contracts and a 14.8% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 26 contracts and an 11% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 16 contracts and a 6.8% share
  6. Others: one contract and a 0.4% share.

Power contracts in May 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Neom (Saudi Arabia): 4,300MW from one contract
  2. Vietnam Electricity (Vietnam) and China Southern Power Grid (China): 1,200MW from one contract
  3. SJVN (India): 1,000MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Larsen & Toubro (Oman) (Oman): 4,300MW from one contract
  2. China Energy Engineering (China): 2,523.99MW from 11 contracts
  3. PowerChina Hubei Engineering (China): 2,450MW capacity from two contracts.
