Global power industry contracts in February 2022: Solar technology down 53%

Solar technology contracts activity in February 2022 saw 73 contracts announced, marking a drop of 53% over the last 12-month average of 156, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the top position in terms of number of contracts during February 2022 with a 43.5% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 33 contracts and a 45.2% share
  2. Project Implementation: 23 contracts and a 31.5% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 14 contracts and a 19.2% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 1.4% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 1.4% share
  6. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 1.4% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar contracts activity in February 2022

Comparing contracts activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 27 contracts and a share of 37% during February 2022, followed by Europe with 21 contracts and a 28.8% share and North America with 15 contracts and a 20.5% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with six contracts and an 8.2% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with four contracts and a 5.5% share.

Solar technology contracts in February 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (India): 1,785MW from one contract
  2. Sify Technologies: 231MW from one contract
  3. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais: 190.5MW capacity from one contract.

Solar technology contracts in February 2022: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,785MW from one contract
  2. China Power Engineering Consulting Group (China): 290MW from three contracts
  3. SEPCOI Electric Power Construction (China): 233.45MW capacity from one contract.
