Global power industry contracts in July 2021: Solar technology down 21%

Solar technology contracts activity in July 2021 saw 136 contracts announced, marking a drop of 21% over the last 12-month average of 172, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the top position in terms of number of contracts during July 2021 with a 49.5% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 55 contracts and a 40.4% share
  2. Project Implementation: 41 contracts and a 30.1% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 30 contracts and a 22.1% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: four contracts and a 2.9% share
  5. Electricity Supply: four contracts and a 2.9% share
  6. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two contracts and a 1.5% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar contracts activity in July 2021

Comparing contracts activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 56 contracts and a share of 41.2% during July 2021, followed by North America with 36 contracts and a 26.5% share and Europe with 27 contracts and a 19.9% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 12 contracts and an 8.8% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with five contracts and a 3.7% share.

Solar technology contracts in July 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Akimat of Mangystau Region: 30,000MW from one contract
  2. Badan Pengusahaan Batam: 2,200MW from one contract
  3. Intersect Power (United States): 1,041MW capacity from three contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Svevind (Sweden): 30,000MW from one contract
  2. Sunseap Group Pte (Singapore): 2,200MW from one contract
  3. Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates): 1,080MW capacity from four contracts.
