Global power industry contracts in July 2022: Solar technology down 53%

Solar technology contracts activity in July 2022 saw 65 contracts announced, marking a drop of 53% over the last 12-month average of 138, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the top position in terms of number of contracts during July 2022 with a 43.6% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 36 contracts and a 55.4% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 27 contracts and a 41.5% share
  3. Others: one contract and a 1.5% share
  4. Supply & Erection: one contract and a 1.5% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar contracts activity in July 2022

Comparing contracts activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 30 contracts and a share of 46.2% during July 2022, followed by Europe with 22 contracts and a 33.8% share and Middle East and Africa with nine contracts and a 13.8% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with three contracts and a 4.6% share and in fifth place was North America with one contract and a 1.5% share.

Solar technology contracts in July 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Government Of Rajasthan (India): 10,000MW from one contract
  2. Xinjiang Yecheng: 2,000MW from one contract
  3. Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (United Kingdom): 630.88MW capacity from 16 contracts.

Solar technology contracts in July 2022: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. NTPC Renewable Energy (India): 10,000MW from one contract
  2. China Energy Engineering (China): 3,190MW from 17 contracts
  3. PetroChina (China): 2,000MW capacity from one contract.
