Global power industry contracts in March 2022: Solar technology down 28%

Solar technology contracts activity in March 2022 saw 109 contracts announced, marking a drop of 28% over the last 12-month average of 151, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the top position in terms of number of contracts during March 2022 with a 54.2% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 45 contracts and a 41.3% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 42 contracts and a 38.5% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 16 contracts and a 14.7% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: four contracts and a 3.7% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two contracts and a 1.8% share.

 

Asia-Pacific leads solar contracts activity in March 2022

 

Comparing contracts activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 63 contracts and a share of 57.8% during March 2022, followed by North America with 22 contracts and a 20.2% share and Europe with 11 contracts and a 10.1% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with eight contracts and a 7.3% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with five contracts and a 4.6% share.

Solar technology contracts in March 2022: Top companies by capacity

 

The top issuers of contracts in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. China Huadian (China): 3,000MW from one contract
  2. Saudi Power Procurement (Saudi Arabia): 1,000MW from two contracts
  3. ArcelorMittal (Luxembourg): 975MW capacity from one contract.

 

Solar technology contracts in March 2022: Top winners by capacity

 

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. China Power Engineering Consulting Group (China): 7,977MW from ten contracts
  2. Greenko Energies (India): 975MW from one contract
  3. Acwa Power (Saudi Arabia): 700MW capacity from one contract.
