Global power industry contracts in October 2021: Solar technology down 32%

Solar technology contracts activity in October 2021 saw 117 contracts announced, marking a drop of 32% over the last 12-month average of 171, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the top position in terms of number of contracts during October 2021 with a 54.7% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 65 contracts and a 55.6% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 35 contracts and a 29.9% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 11 contracts and a 9.4% share
  4. Electricity Supply: four contracts and a 3.4% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 0.9% share
  6. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 0.9% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar contracts activity in October 2021

Comparing contracts activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 40 contracts and a share of 34.2% during October 2021, followed by North America with 30 contracts and a 25.6% share and Europe with 25 contracts and a 21.4% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 19 contracts and a 16.2% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with three contracts and a 2.6% share.

Solar technology contracts in October 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Energy Bureau of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region: 1,550MW from one contract
  2. Ministry of Electricity, Iraq (Iraq) and National Investment Commission, Iraq: 1,000MW from one contract
  3. Department of Energy, South Africa (South Africa): 723MW capacity from seven contracts.

Solar technology contracts in October 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Abu Dhabi Future Energy (United Arab Emirates): 1,000MW from one contract
  2. China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering (China): 950MW from two contracts
  3. H1 Holdings (South Africa): 723MW capacity from seven contracts.
