Global power industry contracts in Q3 2021: Nuclear technology up 27%

Nuclear technology contracts activity in Q3 2021 saw 28 contracts announced, marking a rise of 27% over the last four-quarter average of 22, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, nuclear held the fifth position in terms of number of contracts during Q3 2021 with a 3.2% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Nuclear technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: seven contracts and a 25% share
  2. Supply & Erection: six contracts and a 21.4% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: four contracts and a 14.3% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: four contracts and a 14.3% share
  5. Project Implementation: four contracts and a 14.3% share
  6. Others: three contracts and a 10.7% share.

Europe leads nuclear contracts activity in Q3 2021

Comparing contracts activity in nuclear technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 11 contracts and a share of 39.3% during Q3 2021, followed by North America with six contracts and a 21.4% share and Asia-Pacific with six contracts and a 21.4% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with three contracts and a 10.7% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with two contracts and a 7.1% share.

Nuclear technology contracts in Q3 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Nuclear technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Madhya Pradesh Power Management (India): 93MW from one contract
  2. Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic and Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia): 55MW from one contract
  3. Government of Sakha Republic (Russia): 50MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom (Russia): 105MW from two contracts
  2. Nuclear Power Corporation of India (India): 93MW from one contract.
