Global power industry contracts in Q4 2021: Biopower technology down 8%

Biopower technology contracts activity in Q4 2021 saw 22 contracts announced, marking a drop of 8% over the last four-quarter average of 24, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, biopower held the sixth position in terms of number of contracts during Q4 2021 with a 2.4% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Biopower technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 13 contracts and a 59.1% share
  2. Supply & Erection: six contracts and a 27.3% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one contract and a 4.5% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 4.5% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: one contract and a 4.5% share.

Asia-Pacific leads biopower contracts activity in Q4 2021

Comparing contracts activity in biopower technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 15 contracts and a share of 68.2% during Q4 2021, followed by Europe with six contracts and a 27.3% share and North America with one contract and a 4.5% share.

Biopower technology contracts in Q4 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Biopower technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Itochu (Japan), Kyuden Mirai Energy (Japan), Tahara Green Biomass Godo Kaisha and Tokyu Land (Japan): 50MW from one contract
  2. North Dhaka City Government, Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (Bangladesh) and Bangladesh Power Development Board (Bangladesh): 42.5MW from one contract
  3. Brockwell Energy (United Kingdom): 23MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Toyo Engineering (Japan): 50MW from one contract
  2. China Machinery Engineering (China): 42.5MW from one contract
  3. China Everbright Environment Group (Hong Kong): 39MW capacity from three contracts.
