Gas was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of contracts for the quarter, accounting for 42 contracts and a 72.4% share, followed by Coal with 11 contracts and a 19% share. Oil stood in third place with five contracts and an 8.6% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the third position in terms of number of contracts during Q4 2021 with a 6.1% share.
The proportion of contracts by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 21 contracts and a 37.5% share
- Project Implementation: 20 contracts and a 35.7% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: six contracts and a 10.7% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five contracts and an 8.9% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: four contracts and a 7.1% share.
Asia-Pacific leads thermal contracts activity in Q4 2021
Comparing contracts activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 20 contracts and a share of 35.7% during Q4 2021, followed by Middle East and Africa with 13 contracts and a 23.2% share and Europe with ten contracts and a 17.9% share.
In fourth place was North America with eight contracts and a 14.3% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with five contracts and an 8.9% share.

- Siemens Energy (Germany) and Andrade Gutierrez (Brazil): 1,700MW capacity from one contract.
