Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of contracts for the quarter, accounting for 217 contracts and a 70.9% share, followed by Offshore with 85 contracts and a 27.8% share. Onshore Repowered stood in third place with four contracts and a 1.3% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the second position in terms of number of contracts during Q4 2021 with a 33.3% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 108 contracts and a 35.5% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 105 contracts and a 34.5% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 59 contracts and a 19.4% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 19 contracts and a 6.3% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: ten contracts and a 3.3% share
  6. Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 1% share.

Europe leads wind contracts activity in Q4 2021

Comparing contracts activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 187 contracts and a share of 61.5% during Q4 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with 49 contracts and a 16.1% share and North America with 37 contracts and a 12.2% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with 16 contracts and a 5.3% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with 15 contracts and a 4.9% share.

Wind technology contracts in Q4 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Wind technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners KS (Denmark): 10,000MW from one contract
  2. Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Spain): 2,258MW from 47 contracts
  3. Department of Energy, South Africa (South Africa): 1,608MW capacity from 12 contracts.

Wind technology contracts in Q4 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Acciona (Spain), Boskalis (Netherlands), DEME Group (Belgium) and MT Hojgaard Holding (Denmark): 10,000MW from one contract
  2. RWE (Germany): 2,400MW from two contracts
  3. Guangxi Power Generation (China): 1,550MW capacity from one contract.
