Global power industry contracts in September 2021: Solar technology down 33%

Solar technology contracts activity in September 2021 saw 115 contracts announced, marking a drop of 33% over the last 12-month average of 172, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the second position in terms of number of contracts during September 2021 with a 39.2% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 55 contracts and a 47.8% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 29 contracts and a 25.2% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 22 contracts and a 19.1% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 2.6% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: three contracts and a 2.6% share
  6. Electricity Supply: three contracts and a 2.6% share.

Europe leads solar contracts activity in September 2021

Comparing contracts activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 42 contracts and a share of 36.5% during September 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with 32 contracts and a 27.8% share and North America with 26 contracts and a 22.6% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with nine contracts and a 7.8% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with six contracts and a 5.2% share.

Solar technology contracts in September 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution (India): 1,000MW from one contract
  2. AO ATC (Russia): 774.84MW from 18 contracts
  3. Salt River Project (United States): 400MW capacity from one contract.

Solar technology contracts in September 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India) and TotalEnergies (France): 1,000MW from one contract
  2. Unigreen Power (Russia): 545MW from ten contracts
  3. Clenera (United States): 520MW capacity from two contracts.
