Global power industry tenders for August 2021 down 11%

Power industry tenders activity in August 2021 saw 680 tenders announced, marking a drop of 11% over the last 12-month average of 767, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Power industry tenders in August 2021: North America leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 234 tenders and a share of 34.4% during August 2021, followed by Middle East and Africa with 171 tenders and a 25.1% share and Asia-Pacific with 162 tenders and a 23.8% share.

In fourth place was Europe with 83 tenders and a 12.2% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 30 tenders and a 4.4% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 251 tenders, followed by North America with 228.

Thermal tops by technology in August 2021

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 171 tenders and a 54.5% share, followed by solar with 117 tenders and a 37.3% share and hydro with 16 tenders and a 5.1% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment during August 2021, with 275 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (180) and Power Plant (111).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 409 tenders and a 60.1% share
  2. Project Implementation: 145 tenders and a 21.3% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 91 tenders and a 13.4% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 25 tenders and a 3.7% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: six tenders and a 0.9% share
  6. Electricity Supply: three tenders and a 0.4% share
  7. Others: one tender and a 0.1% share.

Power tenders in August 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. University of Auckland (New Zealand): 31,400MW from one tender
  2. Ministry of Electricity and Water (Kuwait): 7,200MW from two tenders
  3. Russian Association of Wind Power Industry (Russia): 6,700MW capacity from one tender.
