Global power industry tenders for July 2021 down 5%

Power industry tenders activity in July 2021 saw 735 tenders announced, marking a drop of 5% over the last 12-month average of 771, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Power industry tenders in July 2021: North America leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 228 tenders and a share of 31% during July 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with 192 tenders and a 26.1% share and Middle East and Africa with 178 tenders and a 24.2% share.

In fourth place was Europe with 108 tenders and a 14.7% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 29 tenders and a 3.9% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 270 tenders, followed by North America with 228.

Thermal tops by technology in July 2021

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 155 tenders and a 52.9% share, followed by solar with 110 tenders and a 37.5% share and hydro with 13 tenders and a 4.4% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment during July 2021, with 317 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (168) and Power Plant (106).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 435 tenders and a 59.2% share
  2. Project Implementation: 161 tenders and a 21.9% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 97 tenders and a 13.2% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 34 tenders and a 4.6% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: four tenders and a 0.5% share
  6. Electricity Supply: two tenders and a 0.3% share
  7. Others: two tenders and a 0.3% share.

Power tenders in July 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,301MW from three tenders
  2. Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Turkey (Turkey): 1,000MW from one tender
  3. The Islamic Charity Center Society: 950MW capacity from one tender.
