Power industry tenders in Q2 2019: Asia-Pacific leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 1,734 tenders and a share of 56.9% during Q2 2019, followed by North America with 616 tenders and a 20.2% share and Middle East and Africa with 429 tenders and a 14.1% share.

In fourth place was Europe with 234 tenders and a 7.7% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 32 tenders and a 1.1% share.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over other regions with 1,737 tenders, followed by North America with 448.

Thermal is top technology for tenders activity in Q2 2019

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, Thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 699 tenders and a 58.3% share, followed by Solar with 339 tenders and a 28.3% share and Hydro with 86 tenders and a 7.2% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment during Q2 2019, with 982 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (892) and Generation Equipment (723).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection with 1,345 tenders and a 44.2% share
  2. Project Implementation with 855 tenders and a 28.1% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others with 730 tenders and a 24% share.

Power tenders in Q2 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India) with 8,406MW from six tenders
  2. University of Szczecin (Poland) with 2,967MW from one tender
  3. NTPC (India) with 2,187.03MW capacity from six tenders.
