Power industry tenders activity in Q3 2021 saw 2,339 tenders announced, marking a rise of 1% over the last four-quarter average of 2,315, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Power industry tenders in Q3 2021: North America leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 719 tenders and a share of 30.7% during Q3 2021, followed by Middle East and Africa with 579 tenders and a 24.8% share and Asia-Pacific with 576 tenders and a 24.6% share.

In fourth place was Europe with 372 tenders and a 15.9% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 93 tenders and a 4% share.

On the basis of the last four-quarter average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 811 tenders, followed by North America with 686.

Thermal tops by technology in Q3 2021

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 498 tenders and a 49.4% share, followed by solar with 395 tenders and a 39.2% share and hydro with 49 tenders and a 4.9% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in global power tenders activity during Q3 2021, with 941 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (528) and Power Plant (409).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 1,347 tenders and a 57.6% share
  2. Project Implementation: 572 tenders and a 24.5% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 278 tenders and an 11.9% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 110 tenders and a 4.7% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: 18 tenders and a 0.8% share
  6. Electricity Supply: nine tenders and a 0.4% share
  7. Others: five tenders and a 0.2% share.

Power tenders in Q3 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Ministere de l’Environnement, de l’Energie et de la Mer (France): 27,050MW from 58 tenders
  2. Ministry of Electricity and Water (Kuwait): 7,200MW from two tenders
  3. Russian Association of Wind Power Industry (Russia): 6,700MW capacity from one tender.
