Global power industry tenders in August 2021: Solar technology down 15%

Solar technology tenders activity in August 2021 saw 117 tenders announced, marking a drop of 15% over the last 12-month average of 138, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the second position in terms of number of tenders during August 2021 with a 37.3% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 86 tenders and a 73.5% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 12 tenders and a 10.3% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: seven tenders and a 6% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: six tenders and a 5.1% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: four tenders and a 3.4% share
  6. Electricity Supply: two tenders and a 1.7% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar tenders activity in August 2021

Comparing tenders activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 34 tenders and a share of 29.1% during August 2021, followed by Middle East and Africa with 33 tenders and a 28.2% share and Europe with 24 tenders and a 20.5% share.

In fourth place was North America with 20 tenders and a 17.1% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with six tenders and a 5.1% share.

Solar technology tenders in August 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. University of Auckland (New Zealand): 31,400MW from one tender
  2. Russian Association of Wind Power Industry (Russia): 6,700MW from one tender
  3. Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Spain): 3,300MW capacity from one tender.
