Global power industry tenders in Q1 2022: Solar technology down 78%

Solar technology tenders activity in Q1 2022 saw 82 tenders announced, marking a drop of 78% over the last four-quarter average of 374, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the top position in terms of number of tenders during Q1 2022 with a 44.3% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 49 tenders and a 59.8% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 11 tenders and a 13.4% share
  3. Supply & Erection: nine tenders and an 11% share
  4. Electricity Supply: eight tenders and a 9.8% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: three tenders and a 3.7% share
  6. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two tenders and a 2.4% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar tenders activity in Q1 2022

Comparing tenders activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 25 tenders and a share of 30.5% during Q1 2022, followed by Europe with 23 tenders and a 28% share and North America with 17 tenders and a 20.7% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 14 tenders and a 17.1% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with three tenders and a 3.7% share.

Solar technology tenders in Q1 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Solar technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Bundesnetzagentur (Germany): 5,901MW from six tenders
  2. Philippines Department of Energy (Philippines) and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam: 2,000MW from one tender
  3. Indiana Michigan Power (United States): 1,300MW capacity from one tender.
