Global power industry tenders in Q1 2022: Thermal technology down 83%

Thermal technology tenders activity in Q1 2022 saw 74 tenders announced, marking a drop of 83% over the last four-quarter average of 435, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Oil was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of tenders for the quarter, accounting for 55 tenders and an 80.9% share, followed by Coal with eight tenders and an 11.8% share. Gas stood in third place with five tenders and a 7.4% share.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the second position in terms of number of tenders during Q1 2022 with a 40% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 42 tenders and a 56.8% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 25 tenders and a 33.8% share
  3. Electricity Supply: four tenders and a 5.4% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: two tenders and a 2.7% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: one tender and a 1.4% share.

North America leads thermal tenders activity in Q1 2022

Comparing tenders activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 48 tenders and a share of 64.9% during Q1 2022, followed by Europe with 16 tenders and a 21.6% share and Asia-Pacific with six tenders and an 8.1% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with three tenders and a 4.1% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with one tender and a 1.4% share.

Thermal technology tenders in Q1 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Thermal technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Indiana Michigan Power (United States): 1,300MW from one tender
  2. Bundesnetzagentur (Germany): 200MW from four tenders.
