Haiyang 1, China

Haiyang 1 is a 1,250MW nuclear reactor which is located within the premises of Haiyang Nuclear Power Project. It is located in Shandong, China. The nuclear reactor is currently generating power and is in active status. The construction on the reactor commenced in Sep, 2009. The first power from the reactor was achieved in Aug, 2018. Subsequent to trial runs the reactor finally entered into commercial operation in Oct, 2018.

Haiyang 1 is a Generation III+ nuclear reactor developed by State Nuclear Power Technology and Westinghouse Electric, are the main contractors for the project.

The 1,250MW reactor is operated by Shandong Nuclear Power. State Power Investment, Shandong International Trust and Investment, Yantai Blue Sky Investment Holdings, China Energy Investment, China National Nuclear Power and Huaneng Nuclear Power Development are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 65%, 10%, 10%, 5%, 5% and 5% respectively.

Haiyang 1 is a type of PWR reactor. It features 157 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released. The project cost is $2,819.375m.

Development Status

The reactor construction commenced in Sep, 2009 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Oct, 2018.

Contractors Involved

The steam turbines for the reactor have been supplied by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd and Harbin Electric. The reactor system was supplied by Westinghouse Electric. The reactor vessel has been supplied by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction. The material used for the construction of the vessel is Carbon Steel. The civil works were carried out by China Nuclear Industry 24 Construction.
