Haiyang 1 is a Generation III+ nuclear reactor developed by State Nuclear Power Technology and Westinghouse Electric, are the main contractors for the project.

The 1,250MW reactor is operated by Shandong Nuclear Power. State Power Investment, Shandong International Trust and Investment, Yantai Blue Sky Investment Holdings, China Energy Investment, China National Nuclear Power and Huaneng Nuclear Power Development are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 65%, 10%, 10%, 5%, 5% and 5% respectively.

The PWR reactor generates 9,133.85GWh/annum of electricity. It features 157 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released.

Development status

The reactor construction commenced in Sep, 2009 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Oct, 2018.

Contractors involved

The steam turbines for the reactor have been supplied by Harbin Electric and Mitsubishi Power. The reactor system was supplied by Westinghouse Electric. The reactor vessel has been supplied by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction. The material used for the construction of the vessel is Carbon Steel. The civil works were carried out by China Nuclear Industry 24 Construction.
