Hyperion CoGeneration Power Plant, US

Hyperion CoGeneration Power Plant is a 28MW biopower project. It is located in California, the US. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. Post completion of construction, the project got commissioned in April 2017.

Description

The project was developed by Constellation Energy Resources and DCO Energy. The project is currently owned by LA Sanitation.

The project generates 173GWh electricity thereby offsetting 100,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year. The project cost is $130m.

The process of anaerobic digestion has been adopted in this combined heat and power (CHP) project to release the stored energy from the feed. Waste water is used as a feedstock to power the project.

The project consists of 1 turbine with 7MW nameplate capacity.

Development Status

The project got commissioned in April 2017.

Contractors Involved

Solar Turbines was selected as the gas turbine supplier for the project. The company provided 2 units of Solar Mars 100-16000 Combustion Turbine Generator turbines, each with 11.35MW nameplate capacity.
