The Jardelund-EnspireME – Battery Energy Storage System is a 48,000kW energy storage project located in Jardelund, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

The electro-chemical battery energy storage project uses lithium-ion as its storage technology. The project was announced in 2017 and was commissioned in 2018.


The Jardelund-EnspireME – Battery Energy Storage System is owned by Eneco Holding (50%), a subsidiary of Mitsubishi and Mitsubishi (50%).

The key application of the project is to supply sustainable reserve capacity to balance the european electricity grid.

Eneco Holding, Mitsubishi, NEC and NEC Energy Solutions have delivered the battery energy storage project.

EnspireMe will utilize this battery energy storage system to supply sustainable reserve capacity to balance the European electricity grid. Eneco and Mitsubishi Corporation will investigate connecting the battery to local wind farms, providing further value for wind farm owners by storing excess electricity generated during periods of curtailment.
