The project is developed and owned by Iran Water and Power Resources Development. The company has a stake of 100%.
Karkheh I is a reservoir based project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 7,300 million cubic meter. The gross head and net head of the project are 106.5m and 93m respectively. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 3 in number. The penstock diameter is 6.2m. The project generated 934 GWh of electricity.
