La Higuera is a 155MW hydro power project. It is located on Tinguiririca river/basin in Libertador General Bernardo O’Higgins, Chile. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 2005 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2010.

The project was developed by Tinguiririca Energia. The project is co-owned by Pacific Hydro and Statkraft Chile Inversiones Electricas, with their respective ownership stake of 50% each.

La Higuera is a run-of-river project. The gross head of the project is 372m. La Higuera underwent through rehabilitation & modernization during 2011-2013. The project generated 745 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $406m.

Power Purchase Agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to Enel Distribucion Chile under a power purchase agreement with a contracted capacity is 480GWh.

Contractors Involved

Power Machines was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 2 units of francis turbines, each with 77.7MW nameplate capacity.

Power Machines supplied 2 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 91 MVA.
