The project was developed by Webuild and is currently owned by Tanzania Electric Supply.
Lower Kihansi is a run-of-river project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 1 million cubic meter. The gross head of the project is 852.75m. The penstock length is 185m. The penstock diameter is 1.1m. The project generated 1,000 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $275m.
The project has 3 electric generators installed at the site. The generator capacity is 71.5 MVA.
