Lunsemfwa Lower is a 255MW hydro power project. It is planned on Lunsemfwa and Mkushi river/basin in Central, Zambia. The project is currently in permitting stage. The project is being developed by Eleqtra and Lunsemfwa hydro power. The project is currently owned by Lunsemfwa hydro power.

Lunsemfwa Lower is a run-of-river project. The gross head of the project will be 488m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, is expected to be 3 in number. The penstock length will be 1,000m. The penstock diameter will be 2.2m. The project is expected to generate 1,630 GWh of electricity. The project cost is expected to be around $300m.

The hydro power project consists of 3 turbines, each with 85MW nameplate capacity.

Development Status

The project construction is expected to commence from 2023. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2026.
