Mabesekwa Export Independent Power Plant, Botswana

The Mabesekwa Export Independent Power Plant is 600MW coal fired power project. It is planned in Central, Botswana. The project is currently in permitting stage. It will be developed in multiple phases. Post completion of the construction, the project is expected to get commissioned in 2023.

Description

The project is being developed and currently owned by Kibo Energy and Shumba Energy. The company’s ownership stake in the project stands as 85% and 15% respectively.

It is a steam turbine power plant that will be used for Baseload. The fuel will be procured from Mabesekwa Coal Field.

Development Status

Post completion of the construction, the project is expected to get commissioned in 2023.

Power Purchase Agreement

The power generated from the project will be sold to Tanzania Electric Supply under a power purchase agreement.

Contractors Involved

GE Power, SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction and Tractebel Engineering are expected to render EPC services for the coal fired power project.
