Description

The project was developed by Babcock & Wilcox Volund and Interserve Group. The project is currently owned by Glennmont Partners.

The project generates 2,600GWh electricity and supplies enough clean energy to power 75,000 households, offsetting 270,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year.

The process of combustion has been adopted in this project to release the stored energy from the feed. Wood waste which is a kind of wood by-product is used as a feedstock to power the project.

Development status

The project construction commenced in 2016 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in June 2019.

Power purchase agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to Centrica under a power purchase agreement.

Contractors involved

Babcock & Wilcox Volund and Interserve Group were selected to render engineering procurement construction services for the biopower project.

Doosan Skoda Power was selected as the steam turbine supplier for the project. The company provided 1 unit of DST-G20 turbine with 45MW nameplate capacity.

Babcock & Wilcox Beijing supplied steam boiler for the project. The boiler installed at the site has a capacity of 35TPH. The temperature witnessed inside the boiler is around 500°C. The steam is pressurized inside the boiler at 80bar.

Babcock & Wilcox Volund is the O&M contractor for the project for a period of 15 years.
