Middle East and Africa power industry contracts in December 2019: Iran (Islamic Republic of Iran) leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, Iran (Islamic Republic of Iran) led the activity in December 2019 with four contracts and a share of 19%, up 3.6% over the previous month and up 100% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Egypt with three contracts and a share of 14.3% and Mali with three contracts and a share of 14.3% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, the United Arab Emirates held the top spot with three contracts, followed by Egypt with two and Iran (Islamic Republic of Iran) with two contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in December 2019
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with seven contracts and a 43.8% share, followed by thermal with five contracts and a 31.3% share and wind with one contract and a 6.3% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in December 2019, with 11 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (5) and T&D Project (5).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Project Implementation: seven contracts and a 33.3% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: four contracts and a 19% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: four contracts and a 19% share
- Supply & Erection: three contracts and a 14.3% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two contracts and a 9.5% share

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

- Thermal Power Plant Holding (Iran): 451MW from one contract.
